Vida Aasen (b. 1992) is a ceramic artist
based in Oslo, Norway. Her work is based in figurative animal sculptures modeled in clay, a material-based reflection on the relationship between humans and animals. She creates her sculptures both individually and in groups, in different clays, sizes, and forms. Her practice is an exploration of how animals are categorized as desirable or undesirable, the shifting boundary between empathy and aversion, and how these perceptions shape our approach to biodiversity.
Currently, Aasen is an artist assistant to Torbjørn Kvasbø and project coordinator at Centre for Ceramic Art in Ringebu. She also teaches sculpture at Strykejernet Art School and Nitja Centre for Contemporary Art, and have her own studio practice in Oslo.
